I actually had this surgery little over a month ago so I can help answer your questions. The surgery itself was estimated to be 4-6 hours and ended up being 5.5 hours.
I was very confused waking up. In the first two days, I felt pain and had to force myself to drink liquids because I wasn't hungry. The morphine and other pain killers helped a lot but that second night is where I felt so miserable and was in so much pain. So, I recommend staying the extra night in the hospital. My first couple days at home is where I felt a lot of pain and was in a constant state of being miserable and depressed. The pain meds gave me headaches and nausea because my stomach was so empty. I still haven't gained my hunger back then. It was in these first days at home where my swelling became BAD. I didn't even believe my face could have been that swollen and man did it hurt.
The total cost for the surgery racked up to be $100,000 but insurance covered the majority. I only had to pay $3000 out of pocket.
