with the current system, the educational system teaches to the middle. What this means is that unless you're average, you're not getting the proper level of education that you need. Those who are gifted are not generally getting their own level of instruction and those who are special needs do not generally get their own level of instruction.

Things are changing and the system is being reworked somewhat, but it's still far from perfect, particularly for those who are gifted or above average.

Edit: Why the hell is this being downvoted? That's the way the high school system works in the US. Seriously, I'm studying to be an educator myself and I've already been working in classrooms. Just ask a teacher what they think of the No Child Left Behind Act.
