That is true, for sure! But I feel like they should try to nail one of the subtler ones rather than blowing all of them.

I am a Cajun from Southwest Louisiana. I spent my 20s living in New Orleans. The True Blood accents are something special for sure. No one in Louisiana sounds like that! The "Cajun" accents on the show are like nails on my cultural chalkboard. True Blood accents are the WORST.

It seems like they are disproportionately bad. They always become a slurry of Gone with the Wind meets spaghetti Western meets Alabama Civil War reenactment. And the thing is, I really don't see why it is so hard for people. The accent is almost Bronxy - typically much more akin to NYC working class drawl than genteel Georgia Peach.

Why are fake New Orleans accents always so terrible? Is there something specific about the dialect that is hard for voice actors to replicate?
