I was just in this situation a couple of weeks ago. I was out with someone that is allergic to seafood. We both asked for the waiter's recommendation and he suggested we both get the sea bass. The other person at the table pointed out that they could not have seafood so he offered an alternative. The sea bass was not great, it was ok.
I asked for a menu to get dessert and another meal to go. While adding up the ticket total in my head, I realized that the sea bass was the most expensive thing on the menu. I don't recall what the other person ordered, but a quick glance showed it was the most expensive non-seafood item on the menu. To test my theory, I asked for a dessert recommendation and once again he suggested the most expensive thing on the menu.
When I walk in the door, you are getting 20% automatically. All you have to do is give ok service and you are getting that You have to screw something up for me to go below that and with good service I usually tip around 40-50%. That waiter, on the other hand, got a $5 tip on a $50 check. It pisses me off when people try to swindle me out of money.

Did anyone ever confront you thinking that you were somehow doing something wrong/inappropriate with your little brother? Did you ever feel like you were being judged by others while out in public?

This tip is 10% and in America 15% is the standard for ok service. For how I normally tip, I would go at least $10 on that ticket for ok service and if I really enjoyed the meal (good food and good service) I would do $20 - $25 on that ticket since the waiters usually have to tip out the busboys and cooks. That way everyone gets a little bit for contributing to my enjoyable evening. If you tip less than 10%, it generally costs the waiter/waitress money since they have to tip out regardless of how much you leave.

Her: I have a boyfriend.
Me: I have a goldfish.
Her: Huh?
Me: I'm sorry, I thought we were sharing random things about ourselves that doesn't matter.
That's how I imagine it going anyway...
