I am currently scoring a short film (my first film!) and the director told me a specific scene needed music. However, it’s more of a neutral scene and I’m not feeling any sort of emotional response towards it. And I have no idea what to write! Has this ever happened to you and if so, any helpful tips?

What style/genre of music do you have the most trouble writing for?

Have you and a director ever disagreed about where and what kind of music should play during a scene? What if you truly think the director is wrong?

Hey Michael, huge fan!!

1.Since Matt Reeves is directing The Batman, can we expect a Bat-score from you? (Please say yes, I’m looking forward to the bat puns) :D

  1. How much time do you put into your midi mockups?

  2. What is a spotting session like? I really want to be a film composer, but I’m kinda scared of these.

  3. Do you ever casually listen to your own soundtracks from time to time?

  4. Have you ever written a very nice sounding cue, only for it to be tossed out by the director in favor of silence?
