Yeah that's the thing with Italian family doctors (GPs). I had to fight with mine to have my knees tested just because, according to him, 25yo is too young to have knees problems. I can only imagine what you had to go through for something so rare, but I'm glad you only paid the ticket in the end (for those who don't know, in Italy you pay a certain percentage of any medical testing/treatment unless you're very poor or have a recognised disease, kinda similar to how it works in England, to a certain extent).

Also waiting time was not too bad at all, only a month for testing from the ASL is something I've never heard of!

Sucks tho that they won't pay for counseling, I really hope you have the means of going through any counseling you need.

Fellow Italian here. Did your region (ASL) pay for testing? What about any physio/treatment? Is the ASL giving you and your family any kind of support?

If they did, what was the waiting time? If not, care to share the costs of testing alone?

Also, I'd be surprised if your family doctor would know what this syndrome is...
