Hang around the French quarter. Get a bloody Mary. Shop in the French market. Get a beignet from café du monde. Watch street performers. Id also second ww2 museum. Or the aquarium.

Its more about location and specific parade. You can find areas appropriate for kids just as easily as adult themes.

Absolutely but make sure you are in the right area and right parade. Some parts are more kid appropriate than others.
