What you are attributing to New Age is actually a Taoist concept. I saw it explained by Dr. Jwing Ming Yang: The prostate is very close to the lower Dantien, which is where Ki (or Chi) is stored. Ejaculating empties the lower Dantien and therefore you have less Ki stored. The message is essentially to not over do it and to plan whether you'll need some Ki later.
