I had my 2nd transplant about 8 months ago. This time I was fortunate it was only 9 months of dialysis.

I considered home hemo but felt more comfortable in the clinic. Is the comfort of home your main reason for choosing home hemo? Any other factors that I didn't consider?

Thank you for sharing your story. My first transplant started failing last year after 5+ years and I had to start back dialysis earlier this year. I go to dialysis 3 times a week (MWF) for 4 hours each time. It's not that it's just 4 hours, but it's the time to leave work and the time I feel defeated the rest of the evening.

At the moment, I'm struggling with why this happened to me. I was on dialysis for 2.5 years when a family friend first donated to me. I work hard and I work full-time, so it has been difficult getting acclimated to my dialysis schedule. Also, as a Christian, I would like to say thanks for sharing the verses and your story/testimony. Thank you for taking action and setting an example to others and getting the word out.

Yes, both were kidneys. The first was a living-donor, a family friend. Unfortunately, rejection started after 6 years. It was described as an issue with antibodies. Ideally, you want 15+ years but mine was compressed to 6. I'm forever grateful for those 6 years. The current transplant is working great and I'm fully expecting great mileage from this one! Thanks for asking, and I hope your health is holding up.

No, there is a great point to your post. You want the healthiest possible kidney for your nephew. Yes, a living-related donor is best, but with the conditions you listed they will rule you out quickly (same happened to me). One of the first people to get tested for me had tests that yielded a cancer scare .. turned out to be some deficiency which they corrected, but a weird blessing in disguise.

Also, what you described is the paired-organ donation and is becoming more popular. Thanks for sharing, and good luck to your family and new extended family (the donor!).
