Just to clarify, gun ownership in Australia has always been very low...almost non-existent compared to the U.S. Australians have never thought owning a gun is necessary to defend ourselves against our government.

Don't have figures for you, but I'd be willing to bet that something like 90%+ of Australians supported the tightening of gun laws that happened under our previous PM John Howard. We believe our society is safer without guns, and the related lower gunshot death statistics in our country support this fact.

Thanks to you both for your answers; I now have a fair bit more insight into what's involved. Has Microsoft published anything accessible that covers more of the potential issues and challenges with Lync over VSAT?

Can you run Lync over a satellite circuit? We have offices in some really remote places and the only way we can get network in there is over VSAT. My biggest concern is latency - anywhere from 550-900ms.
