My good friend taught at John Jay for a few years, got burnt out and reluctantly accepted a job at a fancy private high school in Manhattan. He would cry almost daily after class, feeling defeated and lost. I am in awe of your resilience and perseverance and want to thank you for what you do. Every day. It's important and you're a bad ass.
My question: Are the parents totally checked out? Is there any effort or desire on their part to see the kids learn? Is there any aspiration for their kids to be better/do better?
