Here's the basics (required gear), for bill of materials expected to be $50 US: Frame, display, battery, low-end CPU (integrated graphics and RAM) and WiFi

Modularity begins after that. Add more battery power, better cpu, better antenna, better wifi, camera, larger storage capacity etc for more $$$

And the fact there's supposed to be 3rd party module developers that are 3d printing personal designs (possibly) in the future. Depends how consumers take on 3d printed materials in the near future.

In my opinion, by the time Ara gets out to the mass consumer trial stage, 3d Systems will be well on board.

I'm on board the processing train, to have a piece of hardware your satisfied with, then be able to upgrade a single module like the CPU to gain significant power and perfomance benefits at a fraction of the cost of a new phone! It just makes so much sense!

I don't need a fucking 750ppi screen. I just want performance upgrades to match the needs of day to day use...

I fucking hope so! I've been following this project since talk about it being a thing! As an international customer (Australian) I'd expect a good majority of the hardware be accessible on launch. Not just "America and Europe"
