Pro-tip - It's all in the diet. I lost 50 pounds in a year through mostly dieting (280 to 230). I cut out on soda, candy and junk food. I try to stay away from processed and fast food. I ate less carbs which was hard as an Asian because rice is such a big part of the Asian diet. Eat healthier and eat smaller portions. Although I admit that I will have a cheat day here and there. I also started to do cardio about once to twice a week. At first, I was barely able to run a mile (non-stop) at about 18 minutes. Pathetic since a child could walk a mile faster than that. Now I can run 3 miles at about 10 minutes per mile. It's all about pacing yourself and not giving up.

Lately this hasn't worked and the weight loss is not as rapid. I upped my workout routine to about 3 to 4 sessions of cardio a week and now I also include weight lifting routines after my cardio. I also noticed carbs are much more beneficial lately and helps me shed weight much faster, so I have to switch my diet. This is likely to the change of my workout routine.

For anybody out there who is looking to become healthier. My advice to is to be patient. You're not going to see changes within the first month. The changes will be slow and gradual. Expect about 1 pound loss a week. Get a scale and step on it every day. Listen to your body. A diet program is not universal and people have different metabolic rates towards different foods. Eat differently and check how your body responds to the food, use a journal and write down your diet, your work-out and weight. Find a correlation and use that to your advantage. I use to not be able to loose weight if I eat carbs. But now, carbs help me shed weight.

You'll also find that once you loose the weight, it's quite easy to maintain that weight. Good luck!
