I think you're overestimating horses. Remember that they are prey, and the reason they're such excellent runners is to avoid large predators like wolves and bears. You wouldn't actually have to fight 100 duck-sized horses, you'd just have to attack one of them and then see the other 99 run away in panic.

Ducks, on the other hand, are predators. One the size of a horse would be very likely to see you as a source of food and would attack you. Imagine that huge beak crashing down on your skull... You might be able to fight it off, but I wouldn't give you very good odds.
