I've always wanted to know (tried to search but couldnt' find it), what do primatologist think about the idea of proto humans self domesticating? I know it's been suggested for bonobos. And is it possible that traits that are linked to docility are also linked to neoteny? Such as the fox domestication experiment in Russia and the dog and pig. Are there any papers that are evidence for or against an idea that human ancestors selected for neoteny traits and as result lead to a human primate that was more "babyish" than it's ancestors? And is that linked to extended brain development?
