I donated through surgical means in March like you said you have to. It is a bit of a recovery but worth it. Difficulty walking, off of work, and in pain for about 5 days was my experience. It's awesome that you're donating! Good luck!

I would imagine it's less about "internal equilibrium" (are you talking about balance and such?) and more about avoiding trauma to the remaining organ. Just guessing.

Have you been able to sleep during the procedure? I donated marrow from my hip bone and "T cells" through peripheral apheresis. I slept through most of the apheresis procedure. The only thing that woke me up was when I was too hot because the blood warmer on the return IV was up too high. I hope your recipient does well and that you have a speedy recovery!
