Not OP, but am ATC. In short, it doesn't matter what you currently do for work. There are a series of tests/evaluations that will take place to determine if you fit the bill. All training is accomplished via the academy and OTJ training. If you can pass the basic qualifications, it doesn't matter if you're a welder, auto mechanic, doctor, or a chemical engineer.
