Congratulations on your longevity.

Do you have any advice for those people out there in the world today who are going through similar situations like you went through during and after WWII?

Thank you for your time

You can start learning some grammar online with programs like Duolingo and Rosetta Stone.

VolksHockSchule has German classes for foreigners. VHS is the equivalent of community college, and the cost varies from Free (refugees, low income), to discount, to full price. It also varies from region to region, with Berlin being the lowest.

And the differences between Bavarian dialects and customs from town to town are maddening. :-) And then there's the Sütterlin style of writing, which is still legally accepted, since there are people alive today who weren't taught the letters as we know them today, they were taught Sütterling. (Found it to be fun to dig up little known facts about German language).
