(Im not who you responded to).
And I get why these types of centers are incredibly problematic and abhorrent.
But at the same time, there is no money in most state's budgets for in-patient rehab treatment and no interest by most states/peoplr to pay for in-patient rehab.
So I guess I'm saying is that I'm fine with a "don't work, don't eat" rehab as long as they are providing actual rehab treatment as well. The work for board route is fine with me, if properly regulated.
Especially if it's a keep out of prison option. (Slave labor is perfectly. legal in prisons btw) 3 months vs a year, etc.

Eh.
For example, if its 3 months of drug rehab at one of these horrible facilities or 1 year prison. That seems like an obvious choice.
After all adult addicts are still responsible for making choices. And I'm not willing to infantilize them to the point of thinking they can't make hard decisions.
I don't think many people are signing up for these with any real hope for addiction recovery. There tax-payer funded lawyers are probably explaining to them what is really going down. I think people are trying to find a way out of prison.
Like its clearly wrong and should be fixed because it doesn't fix the problems. But I just doubt that most people agreeing to it don't understand the choice they are making.
