Your city doesn't have something like 311 for non-emergency calls? Mine here in CT doesn't, this place hasn't advanced much since the 60's, but 311 systems are common down South. Limbs down, broken water lines, animal control, it's really a trouble ticket like a help desk for everything that isn't an emergency and people have become accustomed to it.

Just to put things into perspective. The military ordered 1 Million Purple Hearts be made in anticipation of the invasion of Japan. 1 Million! Okinawa was a hell of a wake up call and I don't think enough Americans today understand the absurdity of that horrific battle. These Purple Hearts made for the invasion of Japan were still being handed out during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

The losses to Americans, our Allies, and the Japanese during such an invasion would have been incredibly hard to recover from for all. In addition to that, Southern Japan would have been invaded by the Soviets, as well as Korea. The Iron Curtain would have extended even further.

To expand upon that; What do you think the political, moral, and ethical implications would be if we transitioned to a largely drone based attack aircraft military? I've always feared that taking US servicemen and women out of harms way and utilizing robotic or drone aircraft more heavily would inhibit politician's patience for diplomacy.
