Im an ex mechanic as well. It fills me with happiness knowing I will never have to work on these new crazy german cars filled with black magic and hate. That and ford 5.4 triton spark plugs. Oh boy does that make me happy.

I know you said you cant say how much you get paid, but would you be allowed to say whether or not if you make more or less than $45k a year? Im a student in my mid twenties who went to school after quitting my career as a mechanic and am now kind of figuring out traditional academia is not for me and am wondering if something like what you do might be a career choice to look into. After reading your replies for over an hour it seems like I would really like and be good at being a PI.

I liked it at first. That was 6 years ago though haha. Im an Information Systems Major. I normally dont have this much but its my senior year so I have to use a lot of it in my courses and at work obviously. Im shooting to be a Project manager after school. There is no way in hell I could sit at a desk and program from 9-5 five days a week. Luckily ill have ~5 years experience in the field once I graduate. So a management job shouldnt be out of reach. If I can offer any advice, get as much field experience as possible before graduating. It will make things so much easier. Even if its a 10 hour a week gig, its well worth it.
