Im 29 and have had a long history with severe heriditary Glaucoma and have lost a lot of sight in my left eye. After two surgeries, I am able to keep the pressures down in my eyes but my vision is a downhill road. Its a source of great anxiety.

I just wanted to say thank you for the way you just expressed how you see the world now that your blind, it gives me a great sense of relief and well being that things will be alright for me no matter how I see things. Reading your above reply was like a event of closure I needed to accept my situation. I feel like an amazing weight was just lifted off my shoulders for the time being at least.

What is a quick point of advice for people that in your eyes, can go a long way? Doesn't have to be fashion related.

Ethan,

Thanks for doing an AMA

What tools or arguments have you had the most luck with when trying to explain to someone your point of view? Both on the professional level and the personal level:

I run into this problem a lot. I feel as though my views are solid and backed with evidence but any time I try to explain it to someone , the idea of regulating dangerous drugs sounds so ludicrous that anyone in a discussion seems to react with gut feelings and not following through with logic.

Its nice to meet a kindred soul; I ll try not to type a book of a response:

In my left eye it was 83 at the last check before the surgery, hovering in the 30s-40s most of my life since I was diagonosed around 11 years old. My right eye was operated on a few years ago prior so I forget what the exact number was but it was in the high 70s. I have been on a wide variety of drop combos in both eyes, centering mostly with travatan as well, combined with alphagan and timoptic twice a day but they slowly stopped being effective. Right now I am off all drops and my pressure stays at 8. From what I understand optimal pressure is range is 5-15

Im glad to hear your optic nerve is doing ok. I guess the whole point in lowering the pressure in the eye is to protect the nerve, so if thats ok I guess your doing good. If its any comfort, I have come to understand that open angle glaucoma is a more long term lower pressure glaucoma than narrow angle who have more acute, short lasting high pressure attacks that can be damaging. So our type of glaucoma is so long term it wasnt until I had super high pressures that I noticed a change in sight and prompted me to finally schedule a surgery.
