As a teacher in South Korea for the past 6 years, I can say that they definitely prefer to learn the North American accent. Obviously there are a lot of people who want to learn UK English too and it's good in general to get exposed to a variety of accents. However, parents and schools tend to favor Canadians and Americans more.
