I'm not Norm, but I know a bit about the PNG theatre. The relationship between the ANZACs and the indigenous population was generally very good. They acted as guides and stretcher bearers as well as providers of local knowledge and were soon nicknamed the fuzzy wuzzy angels as they were as they were a god send to many a soldier (the fuzzy wuzzy part is because the local PNG people possess some of the curliest hair known to man).
