Honor Guard Company. Nice. Our paths crossed, but I'm still here. PM me, I might know you.

Comayagua is more dependent that most areas in Honduras, outside of the islands, on U.S. Dollars due to the U.S. Military presence just outside of town. Mind you my experiences are almost 5 years old, wow, of Comayagua, but they tried to ensure there were safe opportunities to go out at night so as to not get cut off of the gravy train of people with dollars coming to their establishments. It also has the bell that was rung to announce liberty from Spain. It's in the square just in front of the clock tower of the 2nd oldest clock in the Western Hempishere.

I'm with you. I think the danger is incredibly overblown. I lived there for 3 years and have been back since. Worst I saw was getting lost and venturing into Comayaguela. But, even that wasn't too terrible, though it was daytime.
