That's the problem with celebrity AMA's. They approach them as if they're interviews. So they go into it thinking they'll be on the phone with Victoria or at a computer for an hour straight. That's how normal, live interviews are done.

And this works out for them because these people are always promoting something when doing these AMA's. They're on the publicity circuit, a magazine interview here, an appearance on TV there, AMA's have become just another 'stop' on the circuit. Because of this, it's easy to approach the AMA as just another block of time to commit to and then be done with.

The problem is that they're way too short. A lot of the time, Reddit takes a while to have the really good questions float to the top. Think about how many crap responses are made in the first hour of any post. Well the celebrity is going to have to answer those. The other bad thing about the short duration is that there are rarely conversations that happen between a poster and the celebrity. They don't have time for that, they want to hit as many questions as possible. Not that anyone is entitled to more than one response, or anything, but when it happens it's pretty cool.

These are somewhat mitigated by having the AMA open early, and letting people vote on questions before the whole things starts, but that's rare.

I really feel like AMA's should be something that a person answers throughout the day. Take 15 or so minutes a few hours after each round of answered questions. It'll give more people a chance to ask something interesting, and the celebrity would have better interaction with the top posts.

The problem with this is that unless the celebrity is a redditor, they'd have to have someone (or Victoria) helping them every few hours, and that can be a hassle.

Even so, I've seen a few AMA's that were spread out over a period of time, and they were awesome.
