My BMT was April of 2019. Got it for AML as well. My brother was my match 10/10. For me the worst days are behind. I did struggle with GVHD of the gut, skin and kidneys -> high dosage Steroids (prednisone) are the worst because of all the side effects. Worst side effect for me was the swelling of my face (moon face).

Steroids did their job and I’m getting better everyday, I even started running again. I’m a 26yo male. It’s different for everyone. No more steroids, less and less medication. I’m good and alive. Message me if you want more info! Take care of yourself, you’re gonna be okay.

I’ve had to do stem cell transplant and different chemo regiments to cure leukaemia. I’m 26m and it’s been two years now. I can’t get myself to go to the fertility clinique, because idk how I will react if I’m told that I can never have children. Force to you my friend.

I’m happy for you my man, this BMT thing is difficult and to relate with other people after such a traumatic experience is near impossible.

The running is awful. Before cancer I used to play soccer 2/3 times a week and was really fit. I wasn’t a cardio beast or anything but overall in great shape. Now I struggle to run a single kilometre without being outta breath. The other thing is that the muscles in my legs hurt when I run, but this is because the steroids shrunk them. Everything is more fragile so I have to be careful.

Overall I’m confident that It’ll get better and better with practice and a lot of patience. Really the only lasting effect the BMT/ chemo had on me is that my hair won’t grow anymore, which is sad because I’m only 26yo and used to have the most luscious and thick hair... oh well.

What is the medication that you think made you lose your hair? I had a bone marrow transplant back in April 2019 and I’ve been on advagraph and high dose of prednisone for about 4-5 months. Now I’m free of the prednisone (thank god) but my hair will not grow back.

Haha same for me got ridiculous amount of hair on my ears and on my back. I was taking 60mg of prednisone when I developed graft vs host disease. I also got moon face and took a lot of weight from it. Horrible times. Now I cannot concentrate and I really suffer from mood swings. I hope everything is good for you.
