In my school a female association even started petitioning to remove a female-only award in Physics. This was because the recipiency felt a lot of pressure to perform in a program that is hard to begin with (about half drop-out after first semester).

I agree. If someone wants to give me money every month, it is not my responsibility to remind them they can cancel whenever they want. Plus, if they don't notice, they probably don't depend on that money to eat or something.

And would the ground count? You might say no because it is not conscious, but then, would a recorder count if no one listen to the recording?
