did they specifically test lp (a)? my first doctor/hospital didnt. Even after all that exciting stuff with the vfib and heart bypass etc. It was only after i went to a different cardiologist that they did. Many cardiologists do not test this routinely. If i was you i would check that one specifically.

good news about the rest ! Sounds like it was just bad luck. Or lp (a) ;-)

have you checked your lp(a) ? thats lipoprotein(a). i also have a defib and had ventricular fibrillation. Also young. It seems sky high levels of lp(a) were a cause. have you had any afib? Pvcs?

Hi,

Thanks for the great AMA. What would be your thoughts on prevention, once heart failure starts setting in ? My wife is 40 and was diagnosed in the early stages. She is thin, non smoker, non drinker and has a masters in nutritional science. Ideopathic ! We also exercise regularly. she now takes various medicines that unfortunately lower her already low blood pressure and make her crazy tired.

More exercise ? Low intensity ? High intensity ? I had a 6 way heart bypass and now have an implanted ICD as well after 2 episodes of v-fib. Fortunately my heart muscle is crazy strong, especially after the revascularization. We call ourselves the cardio family !
