more specifically, is there any single phrase or argument that is particularly effective?

I've heard so many stories of people unable to face this kind of reality, suppress it, ignoring it and enabling this kind of abuse to continue for years.

It seems like the most obvious thing in the world, but I hope you realise how brave you really are to do what needed to be done and make sure your daughter is safe.
