I'd feel blessed if I had just one such moment in a lifetime with a friend!

Uhm, you wouldn't be able to make a normal LCD TV without network connection into a smart tv. I really don't think you'd be able to McGyver wifi into it using shoelaces and a tin can.

If buying an USB wifi adapter is an option, why go through the trouble of hacking a non-smart tv into a smart one? I don't get the point of this exercise or the claim "I could hack a normal tv into a smart tv".

Oh okay, I didn't know hooking up a dongle is being considered "hacking" now.

yeah and I'm saying that's not going to happen.

If you have a tv that's built with onboard support for network connections, sure, you can hack it to do all kinds of stuff. But if it's just a machine with a receiver and a signal converter, no you won't just hack it into a "smart tv" simply because it lacks the required hardware. You'd have to add the hardware by using a dongle, which is in essence an external computer, defeating the point.
