Because it is the most demoralizing experience ever. It makes you angry, depressed and feel like a loser. My experience is that math teachers are beings of pure evil devoid of any emotion.

Every math class I have ever had was basically "Figure it out on your own, and if you don't you'll get left behind and fail. You'll ask a question, then get made fun of by your peers for not knowing. But remember kids: LEARNING IS FUN!"

I am going to be 31 years old and any time I have to do any kind of math I still get the same scared/panic feeling I got as a kid.

Oh well. Those mother fuckers told me I'd never have a computer in my pocket and look at me now!

What I always hated is I could bang out a paper and get an A without thinking about it. So I would always have people be like "You are really smart! How can you write so well (for a paper...don't judge me by my internet comments) but not do math!?"

I was really lucky in that my parents are both teachers and they get it. I had a private tutor that was an old friend of my dads and that got me through public school. Higher education was another hell to deal with. In fact, I picked my major based on which ones had the least amount of math. That is how I ended up with my useless degree in Natural Resource Management.

Oh well. Someone has to lose for other people to win I guess. That is how I look at it.
