I'm not one of the people from Ronimo but I believe the reason replays weren't implemented already and has such a high stretch goal is that it takes a LOT of work to make a game not originally designed for replays, work with replays. (Look at league of legends)

The reason replays weren't implemented from the start is probably that it is a secondary function separate from the actual gameplay and the studio is small. Too small to invest time in a replay system when they are trying to get the game up and running.

Someone from Ronimo could answer you better though.
