The impression that I get from the internet is that if the police decide to fuck you up in the USA there's not a lot you can do, unless you have a lot of money and/or connections the legal system will chew you up and spit you out. Also the emergence of the private prison system scares me and I don't even live in the USA. In Australia if you copped a hard time from the cops and you felt they weren't justified you would complain and they would be at least hassled by their boss about it. You don't get people handcuffed "For their own safety." and guns pointed at you if you get pulled over even if you're shitfaced and smoking a joint. You don't get beaten up for bullshit and can say shit like "Speeding. Nah mate, don't be a dickhead. I couldn't of been speeding." and the cop might not be impressed but won't take you to jail for disrespecting them.

Are normal everyday people reluctant to have any interaction with the police where you are? I can't imagine cops that are more likely to mess you up than criminals are. (I live in Australia)
