The advice I was always given(I have immediate family that are all NYPD, FDNY, and Marines) is that you should be able to pull PFT with 120lbs. on your back.

So take a look at this and aim for that. Obviously, Fire Department standards will be more relaxed, but it's always better to beat than meet.

EDIT: I was given this advice by Infantry guys, both of whom are godlike in physicality, so your advice may differ. I still think it's useful.
