Now I use my memories as my totems. They take up far less room.

Coming from the guy who played Sammy Jenkis, this is uncomfortably ironic. Or poignant. Can't tell which.

Hey Stephen! Big fan here, but I saw your previous AMA too late to get a question in. Thanks for your nice comments on Harold Ramis up above in this thread -- it's a sad day.

My question: If you had the opportunity to recast / remake one of your favorite movies (that you're NOT actually in) and give yourself any role you wanted in it, what movie would you remake, and what role would you take for yourself?

I always thought it was a conservative agenda. Liberals tend to be in favor of oversight, regulation, and giving the power back to the people being governed. Conservatives tend to be in favor of having no oversight or regulation, and letting whoever shows up with a gun have all the power. How is the militarization of the police force not in line with those conservative principles?

I agree with you completely, but I also see the argument that, for most criminals, the time at which they have "a chance to make things right and get their life on a 'normal' track" is the time at which they choose to commit the crime. Obviously this doesn't hold for criminals who are genuinely so mentally ill that they can't understand the choice they're making, but the mentally-normal majority of criminals did get an opportunity to make that choice for themselves, and they wouldn't be criminals at all if they had made the "right track" choice when it was before them.

This is all glossing over the question of how socioeconomics might make criminality a more beneficial choice than staying on the "right track," of course, and that's definitely a discussion worth having. But it's simply fallacious to claim that many of these people never had the opportunity to make that choice at all.

Hey, the NRA agrees with you.

And therefore, the people that keep paying dues to the NRA to fund them expressing this viewpoint also agree with you.
