Chris, people talk a lot about income/wealth disparity in the US, and while this seems like an important issue to me, poverty in the third world seems like a MUCH BIGGER issue, but one that doesn't get as much attention. That being said, I always feel confused, jaded, and cynical when looking at donating to the charities and NGOs that try to help. It seems like there is so much corruption in third world countries - from government, to religion, to foreign NGOs "trying to help." What do you think is the best way for first world citizens to help deal with third world poverty and third world corruption? Am I better off donating money, or going on charitable trips and donating my time?
