I was on a jury recently, and when the lady called 911, the dispatcher spent, literally and no joke, about 2 minutes of the call trying to understand the caller's name, ignoring the problem being reported.

What the hell was up with that? I couldn't keep a straight face :( It seemed wildly inappropriate

lettuce is not particularly nutritious.

So any colonists won't be growing it anyway, right? Why not pick something that actually has potential to actually be used, such as potatoes or spinach?

Alternatively, soy is one of the few plants which provide all protein requirements of humans, and it's not like they're going to raise any sort of animals for food (maaaaaaaybe insects, but that's unlikely given the present culture). Animals are just way too inefficient to be food in a limited resource environment like Mars
