There's a super old episode of Futurama in which Bender tries to cook for everyone despite his lack of taste....literally! I'll have to google it later for you as I gotta put my kid to bed. I think it was called "The Iron Chef" or something along those lines...

It's fascinating to see that as with most things in life, everything is much easier in the beginning before it gets too popular and the industry is saturated by truly unpleasant people. Heck, even the market for virtual videogame items gets trashed in the end!

Met an unnamed cop from the Leicestershire force a couple of years back. He was looking at quitting because of how bad it was. The force had one night that year when they had a sum total of 20....that's right, 20....cops on duty for the entire county and city of Leicester. If it had kicked off in the city centre, they could have seen half the force sent to deal with a single incident.

Every time someone kicks off at the cops, try to bear in mind that their impatience could be down to thw fact that they have nil backup and no time to deal with bullshit.

Hijacking for visibility.

To look for an example of the impact of this problem in politics, look at Nick Clegg....former leader of the Lib Dem party in the UK. He was MP for a consituency in Northern England with a substantial amount of students. He ran on a ticket against tuition fees. When unexpectedly brought into coalition, he had to back down on this and publicly apologised for it.....effectively ending his career.

The gains he achieved by compromising on tuition fees were ignored completely, all because he was seen as breaking his promise.
