Alan, as someone who has worn many hats in the industry, and to someone who is very new to a very small part of the industry, what sets apart a good producer from lackluster or terrible ones? From both the point of view of crew and talent as well?

Also, where can I get some sweet shirts like Wash had?

I'm not OP but I work in production and have to cast VO talent for clients often.

Basically, most clients these days aren't looking for a bombastic "SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY, COME TO BIG BOBS BEAUTIFUL BARBECUE BONANZA" or something that sounds like your local radio DJ that has to do ad reads on air for local businesses. People turn off or skip commercials in the age of streaming. Instead clients aim to draw you in by appealing to your emotions. A conversational tone is just that, it sounds like you're part of a conversation, just some people talking. When you hear some big radio voice selling you soap you probably register "that's a commercial, time to tune out" while if you just overhear someone talking about this great new soap that really helps their psoriasis you are more likely to go "oh shit I've been having trouble with my psoriasis, what soap is he talking about?"

You are one person, not the majority. You liking that does not prove his thought process incorrect. Unless you know the majority of gamers and have asked them, your interest being grabbed by the comparison doesn't change anything.

Coming home from work last night, I'm leaving downtown and stuck in a loooooong line of traffic all trying to get onto the highway on-ramp. You can see for like half a mile down this road, and it's bumper to bumper, and yet this one car decides to block 2 lanes of an intersection rather than sit and wait like you're supposed to. A Fire Marshal in a pickup truck, not a full blown fire engine, comes flying up with lights and sirens on heading into the blocked intersection, and the stare he gave the asshole lady blocking the intersection almost caused another fire right there on the spot. She backed up as quickly as she could to clear a path, and a solid 50 people around that intersection all stared at her while it went down.
