The slightly longer answer would be that right after the transplantation the immune system would be very compromised, hence the mask, washing hand and stay clear of sick people and large gatherings. After a while the medication that lowers the immune system will slowly (months and years) decrease a bit but you will never stop taking them completely. So the immune system will always be compromised but more in the first 2 years

I think that you have to wait at least 1 year before you can get any new tattoos. I actually got tattooed exactly 1 year after my transplant
