He may also be taking interest over several years into consideration. I went to a state school & a small tech school, my loans were a total of around 45-50k, and, as I never made more than 33k in my best year since then, the total with interest is near 70k. Currently in a loan rehab program, but the years where I couldn't even make the minimum payment have shredded my credit (I cut up my last credit card over a decade ago, and paid off the last one 6 years ago). I'm working on it, and there are people far worse off than I am, but it's still not easy.

As you deal with (mostly) wealthier clientele, do you have any horror stories about self-entitled, needy customers that really stretch your patience beyond the limit? I'm not talking about people wanting help with reasonable things -- I mean more like, "I will be bringing my dog to this resort, and they say pets are not allowed! He isn't a pet, he's family! MAKE THEM CHANGE THEIR POLICY TO SUIT ME!" -- that, or people demanding refunds from you for things which are the fault of a hotel/rude random local residents or other tourists, etc.

I've had the same issue with the past. They also try to get you to either "borrow money from your relatives" or just plain ask for their info -- I'm sure the OP can comment on this, but I believe the latter is illegal.
