I was in a doctor's waiting room in Huntsville this morning and saw something that made me laugh. You know you're in the South when you see a "Guns & Ammo" magazine in a waiting room. What's the most Southern thing you've seen?

This is the real question. If you think college is expensive now, just wait until it is "free".

I've heard policy wonks claim that since ordinary people are too stupid to plan for their own retirement, all IRAs and 401Ks should be taken over by the government. In exchange, the people would get annuities. This has several drawbacks. For one, most annuities disappear when the owner dies (there are exceptions), so there is no chance of leaving something for your loved ones. Another drawback is the certainty that in the name of fairness, everyone would get an annuity, not just the people who owned IRAs and 401Ks. It would be nothing more than yet another wealth redistribution program. Frankly, I get quite tired of people from the government, which is $20 trillion in debt, lecturing me on how to manage my money.
