Hi Erik! I work on voting rights in Alabama and the Brennan Center is such a great resource, so thank you, first of all. I had a follow-up question: what makes the Canadian national ID card different and/or better than the new photo ID laws in US states?

So Canadian national ID cards are issued for free and require no effort on the part of the citizen? Yeah, that's WAY different. Thank you for clarifying! We talk a lot about the problems with photo voter ID and people persistently misunderstand why the laws represent a legitimate challenge for some folks.
