Sochi was sold to host the olympics with a 'zero waste' program, to ensure that these would be the cleanest games ever. Didn't take long for journalists to find out that this clearly wasn't the case. As an engineer working for the construction for these games, were you aware of the illegal dumping happening? Was this news to you? Was this zero waste program even mentioned to you prior to your arrival? .. Really what do you know about this at all?

Hi there. I basically just joined this place after months of lurking just to ask you some questions..

My home province has been studying the possibility of "fracking" to be a new source of income for the government for the last few years. There has been some exploratory wells drilled in the last year, but with the increasingly scary information that has come out of the long-terms effects of the industry on the environment -- and in particular to local water supplies, how do you actually believe that the use of hydraulic fracturing is safe in the long term?

Some studies have gone on to show that smaller scale earthquakes have been linked to fracking, as evident by research done by the B.C. oil and gas commission (among many others throughout the years), that the natural gas does in fact leak into water supplies and cause considerable health risks.

For smaller communities that still rely on well water, this is considerably sombre information that scares the crap out of them -- and with good reason. What have you seen, from the inside, regarding this and do you actually feel it's blown out of proportion?

I grew up in a small fishing community in NB, but moved at a pretty young age... a lot of people I grew up with came from Crab fishermen families and still carry that tradition today! Some of the best, most dedicated and down to earth people I've ever been fortunate enough to meet.

Question... With the unfortunate tragedy of the Miss Ally in southern NS earlier this year, does that ever make you rethink your career path? Did your security procedures change following the news or has it been business as usual?
