Just so you know, there is no keeping anonymous from amazon if they care to look into something. All your electronic devices have physical addresses that are logged and your ip address can usually identify you as well. Amazon Web Services currently has around 33% of cloud hosting market share. They absolutely have the data necessary to identify anyone if they are motivated to do so.

Can't you argue that prolonged exposure can't be accidental. If you run a facility using toxic compounds, it is your responsibility to regularly test/monitor for exposure to those compounds. Prolonged exposure cannot happen without wilful negligence. Whether the negligence occurred in the lack of monitoring or lack of fixing the issue ceases to be important when there is ample time for detection and remediation.

That's fair, and I'm glad you aren't intimidated into silence. I just wanted to point out that anonymity online is fragile at best.

So was the fine issued really in-line with the penalties prescribed for wilful negligence? If so, it sounds like this should be used as a case study for reevaluating the allowable penalties.
