It's part of online gaming nowadays for kids in that age range. Even a lot of people who are 10+ years older do the same thing.
Taking the suggestion from a user above regarding rpg games, you can ask the parents of your son's friends if they're interested in having them (the kids) all start an rpg together. Starting an rpg alone might be actually lonely and tiresome as it involves a lot of grinding early. Having a group of friends to start the same game is much more fun than doing it alone. That way you can encourage group activities so he plays with friends while also not being as negative.

copy paste one button description, working on another button, finished project cuz the button you copied the description to has text in it. It's a small mistake (as from a coding perspective) but those always have big results :D
