Hey, I was on prescription Miralax, bowel cleansers (the serious stuff they use for colonoscopy's), and Amitiza for about 5-6 years. I dealt with this issue from ages 15-20, and despite the doctor constantly giving advice on how to fix the issue, I ignored it. Eating more vegetables and drinking water, and I mean lots of it, changed my life. I no longer take Amitiza (thank goodness, that medicine causes headaches, shortness of breath, and other nauseating side-effects) and am completely stable in bowel regularity. Do not let this get out of hand with your daughter. Do not let her grow up thinking that these medicines are her only options to stability. I'm not a doctor, but after going to see multiple gastroenterologists about this I can promise that a little exercise, water and a true healthy diet, your daughter will no longer need all of the medicine. I urge you to at least help her try these things and be supportive of it.

You haven't said what your diet is like at all. Give real examples of what you eat daily, and then people can help you out.

The kid said he'd almost died. My guess is this is a parenting issue. Clearly something isn't going through. In another comment he said his mom has the same issue and mainly eats cereal and ice cream at dinner.

Hi there, I had the same issue. READ /u/Sonmi-452 's post. I overhauled my diet (way easier than it sounds) and started drinking a lot of water during the day and no longer have any issue. I had it from ages 15-21. You can absolutely fix chronic constipation. You just have to be willing to make a change. Do not keep thinking that this is some unmanageable problem. Take action.
