Reading really quickly about Fukushima, the problem was the 14 meters tall tzunami that hit the nuclear plant, submerging auxiliary generators that sent cooling fluid to the cores. The cores had been shut down, as per safety procedures, but there's heat left even after the shutting down, hence the necessity of cooling. Generators failed because they got submerged, and the heath melted some stuff, causing the disaster. Basically, nature took its tool.

Hi! Your thoughts on nuclear fusion energy? Haven't heard much about it lately, but a physics professor of mine used to have a very pessimistic outlook for the near (approx 20 years) future.

How much do you think that we can improve the efficiency of nuclear plants?

If it is still in your field of expertise: how viable are fusion reactors? Some physics professors I heard talking about the subject were doubtful on their realisation without any major breakthrough in technology.
