I'll take a second to shout out iNaturalist for anyone and everyone who would like to contribute to citizen science that helps with some of these projects. Anyone can log in and upload pictures of any kind of flora or fauna, even if you don't know the species yourself (it will be identified and confirmed by others). They even recently discovered a new beetle species in Los Angeles from one its users!
